Brunswick Landing

The new VividCloud headquarters at Brunswick Landing is home to 120 of its 200 employees. VividCloud is a software development company providing development services for cloud supported software applications. The developer for the project was Priority Real Estate Group.

A Team Effort In 2011, Brunswick Landing, Maine’s Center for Innovation, opened for business at the decommissioned Naval Air Station Brunswick. The Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority (MRRA) has managed the transition of the former Navy properties, in Brunswick and Topsham, from military to civilian usage. Where are we today?

  • 2,500 jobs created by 150 businesses.

  • More than a quarter of the businesses at Brunswick Landing and Topsham Commerce Park never existed in Maine before the creation of MRRA.

  • Educational opportunities at Southern Maine Community College, University of Maine at Augusta, Harpswell Coastal Academy and The REAL School.

  • Active Brunswick Executive Airport (BXM) with over 27,000 air operations annually.

  • Nearly $200 million in new real estate valuation, generating nearly $4 million in annual property tax revenues, in the towns of Brunswick and Topsham.

We are thankful for the private sector who has worked together with the MRRA Team to establish their business on the Brunswick Landing. Each business who makes a conscious decision to be a part of the redevelopment effort contributes to the remarkable success that has been realized at the Brunswick Landing. Being part of a community created to foster and encourage new ideas, new innovations, and new opportunities is an attractive selling point for the Landing. Success is not achieved alone, and MRRA is grateful for the partnerships with our local, state, and federal partners as well as the organizations and groups that have been critical to our success. Today, Brunswick Landing is a robust work-live-play community within beautiful, historic Brunswick – and a draw for innovative people, entrepreneurs, and high-tech businesses. Among the businesses located on the campus, visitors can enjoy the Wild Oats Bakery, Flight Deck Brewery, Landing YMCA, Brunswick Recreation Center, Brunswick Topsham Land Trust’s walking and biking trails, Mere Creek Golf Course, and a safe pedestrian walking trail. A notable example of Maine’s future communities!

Unique assets

Brunswick Landing’s unique assets set it apart from other industrial or business parks. Our campus is host to a regional executive airport, a community college and a manufacturing business incubator; is powered by an independent power grid run on renewable energy; and provides high-speed fiber optic and data networks. Brunswick Executive Airport is home to 22 aerospace companies – flight schools, unmanned aircraft systems, new-space, aircraft maintenance and aircraft manufacturing. Future plans include a new fee-based Customs Border Protection facility and, together with University of Maine Augusta, MRRA is looking to create an Aviation Maintenance Technician School to support the workforce needs of all aviation companies in Maine. Additionally, the Brunswick Landing is home to the Maine Technology Institute, a key partner in Maine’s technology industry growth. MRRA is a partner in the development of the Maine Space Complex where facilities located at the Landing will focus on data and advanced analytics, incubation, R&D, manufacturing, and testing. MRRA is excited to be part of the innovation and economic development that grow from the new space industry and will engage students, researchers, entrepreneurs, businesses, state and local governments, and communities. More to come!

Meeting critical housing needs. The 108 apartment units at the Brunswick Landing were built by developer Graiver Homes and were fully rented when the project was completed in October 2021

TechPlace A 95,000 square-foot manufacturing incubator located at the Landing is supporting entrepreneurs in their discovery and development of innovative technologies and new companies. TechPlace opened its doors in 2015 providing office and manufacturing space, as well as a shared machine shop, welding booth, composites layup facility and bioproduction laboratory. Over the past eight years, TechPlace has supported over 60 companies in creating over 475 jobs A few of the graduates of TechPlace include STARC Systems – a manufacturer of composite wall systems used for temporary containment; bluShift Aerospace – aerospace company designing rocket engines that run on a biofuel; and VividCloud – an IT company that develops advanced cloud and IoT systems. Collectively, these three companies now employ over 300 people.

Innovative companies from Maine, the nation, and outside the U.S., continue to seek out Brunswick Landing for its unique assets and for a culture designed to support new ideas and big thinking.
